The home “Hogar del Sol” (House of the Sun) lies at the outskirts of Jujuy. It is meant to be a “home of sunshine” for those children who suffered traumatic experiences in their previous life. They are looked after in small family groups by Argentine home parents or home mothers.
Usually the children are sent to us by the family court, because they don’t have parents any more or because their parents are not able to give them a minimum of love and care. Some mothers abandon their new-born children in the hospital giving a false address. These babies are looked after with loving care in our home until adoptive parents are found for them. Other children are ill or disabled and need much time and attention. Some of the children are physically or mentally damaged or have severe behavioural problems because of their difficult past. They need psychological treatment, individual speech therapy, an intensive medical care as well as lengthy dental treatment. This very intensive care leads to comparatively high maintenance costs.
Sisters Babet and Ulrike spend much time with authorities and in hospitals. They motivate their staff members and step in for them in case of illness or free time. The children attend nearby schools. After finishing school they get vocational training according to their talents. After they are independent later and have families of their own many of them come back to “their family” in the home.
Sisters and staff members are supported by the small local church. After Sunday service there a Sunday School groups for all ages from toddlers to seniors. Once a week there is a children’s group on the home compound which is also attended by children coming from outwards. They play and sing, listen to Bible stories and do handicrafts – they learn to love Jesus. It is our wish and prayer that the children get a solid foundation for their life, so that they will have a positive influence in society later.
