The home “Hogar del Sol” (House of the Sun) lies at the outskirts of Jujuy. It is meant to be a “home of sunshine” for those children who suffered traumatic experiences in their previous life. Some of them are ill, disabled or have severe behavioural problems. They are looked after in small family groups by Argentine home parents or home mothers.
The day care centre “Arca de Noe” (Noah’s Ark) lies in the centre of Jujuy in a neighbourhood where street gangs and drug trafficking are omnipresent. 130 children from the slums can spend the day in “Noah’s Ark”. Their environment is characterized by garbage, violence and uncertainty. We cannot just change this environment. But with God’s love and together with our dedicated staff we try to give these children and their families a place of refuge and hopefully of healing too.
We are thankful for our longtime responsible staff members in the day care centre and in the home. They work with dedication and love and put up with many difficulties.
In the last years the inflation rate in Argentina has been increasing alarmingly. Today Argentina is one of the countries with the highest living costs and the province of Jujuy is particularly stricken by economic distress. So compared to former days the same sum of donations covers only a part of our labour costs today. But without our staff members the work for the children simply cannot be done.
Therefore, we ask our friends to support a native employee with a sponsorship via Christusträger-Waisendienst and we are very grateful for this help. The costs for one of our staff members are generally too high for one sponsor alone, so it is possible for the sponsors to bear a share of the costs with an amount chosen freely.
