To reach the village Ashwaraopeta it takes a 300 kilometer drive to the east from our office in Hyderabad. The village lies at the far end of the state Telangana close to the border of Andhra Pradesh. It is a very poor area. There are only very few plantations, many people struggle along on small-scale farming or raising a few cattle.
In 2017 a group of local Christians approached Christusträger-Waisendienst asking to start a medical centre as there was practically no health care available in the area. So even supposed small wounds or illnesses often end in disaster because they are not treated properly. After a thorough sounding of the local situation it was decided to rent a small house in a small settlement 5 kilometers outside of the village and to open the much-needed medical centre there. To run the centre we could win the medical nurse Sindhu from the local community. She has daily consultation-hours in the medical centre and also visits the surrounding villages to look after old and sick persons who cannot come to the centre on their own. The medical centre is already well-accepted by the population and the village elders are very thankful that medical care is finally available.
To provide the medical centre with the necessary medicines and qualified personnel is only possible with our friends supporting us by project sponsorships and giving the financial means. But Sindhu is also thankful for prayers that accompany her on her tours to the villages that are not without danger.
