Proddatur is a big town and a business centre in Kadapa District. There is hardly any industry. The town is surrounded by 25 villages with Christian minorities. Most people are very poor and depend completely of daily jobs in agriculture. The main crops are legumes and rice. There is an irrigation canal to water the rice fields. When water is scarce, which is often the case, the canal does not have any water. Without water there is no crop and without crop there is no work. So many people run into debts just to survive.
A group of Christians came together to help the children within their possibilities. With their own means and at personal sacrifice they established a home for girls. In former days the home received some additional support from the state of Andhra Pradesh. The home has a large inner courtyard for the girls to play in. It is the goal of the home to supply accommodation, food and education for the girls as well as Christian instruction to change their lives and give them a new perspective.
As Indian donations were not sufficient, Christusträger-Waisendienst was asked to bear the running costs for the maintenance of 50 children. Christusträger-Waisendienst supports the home by personal sponsorships. With your help it is possible to reduce the need and educate the girls.
