With 15,000 inhabitants Puttaparthy is only a small town. Nevertheless, the town is quite famous as it is the birthplace and centre of activity of the late Hindu guru Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Even today the town is characterized by his ashram and the great number of his followers, although many activities came to an end after the death of the guru. As a consequence many people who had made their living in the ashram lost their means of existence.
Already some years ago Mr. Prem Kumar, the founder of Moriah children’s home, noticed that many people in this town had lost hope after the death of Sai Baba and were looking for a new perspective. He started to talk with the local population, gave advice to the people and founded the first Christian churches in this area. In 2012 he initiated the construction of a children’s home. In spite of great efforts the local community did not succeed in organizing the regular maintenance of the boys in this home, so that it even had to close again. In 2014 Christusträger-Waisendienst was asked to ensure the sustenance of this home.
Today Moriah Children’s Home accommodates 50 boys who cannot be maintained by their families. There are always some orphan children among them. The home is financed by Christusträger-Waisendienst and run by Mr. Prem Kumar and his local team. Like all our indian projects the Moriah Childrens’ Home is supervised by the Head Office of our Indian Partner Organization in Secunderabad. The boys live together in cheerful community, they get accommodation, loving care, food, clothing and a school education and are thus prepared for a responsible life in their country.
