The small town of Gudur lies in the south of the state Andhra Pradesh about 10 kilometers from the Bay of Bengal as the crow flies. The standard of living of the population is very low. Most people work as daily hands if work is available at all. These conditions are especially hard for families with many children.

Already for many years the pastor Mr. Anil Kumar looks after the inhabitants of a slum with mainly Muslim population. His and a number of other churches also support our Daniel Boys’ Home which is close-by. They support our children’s home in organizing Sunday Schools and youth meetings.

Then Mr. Anil Kumar approached Christusträger-Waisendienst asking for support, as he wanted to help the slum population not only by his church work, but also practically with a day-care centre for children. The day-workers are often forced to take their small children to their sometimes dangerous workplaces. In other cases the children are even left on their own in the hut, as there is nobody who can look after them while their parents are working in the fields or at a construction site. The wages of the day-workers are often not even enough for adequate nutrition. In our day-care centre the children cannot only spend the day in safety, but they also get four well-balanced meals, basic clothes and medical care when necessary.
