Kataram is a small place in the north of the state Telangana, only a few kilometres away from the big river Godavari. The land is very dry and unproductive so that rice and lentils can only be grown in a very few places. Because there is so little vegetation even sheep farming is only possible on a very limited scale. So many people have to struggle along as daily workers and casual hands. In addition, the whole area is affected by strong activities of communist terrorists, the so-called Naxalists. Many families even lost one of their members due to terrorist acts of violence.
The appeal for help in this area came from the young pastor David Mark whose father was assassinated by Naxalists. Since many years, he and other volunteers of his church give help to needy children in the surrounding villages. They organise weekly activities, pre-school education and a minimal support with food for the children. For a long time it was wish of this young man to give a solid frame to these activities and to open a children’s home where children are taken care of and supported thoroughly. 2015 he came into contact with Christusträger-Waisendienst (Childcare Through Works in India) and asked officially for support. After a detailed examination of his plans Timothy Boys’s Home was opened with 40 boys. It is planned to increase the number of boys to 50 in due time.
