Ramachandrapuram is a district capital lying close to the mouth of the Godavari River at the Bay of Bengal. In this district capital all kinds of schools and educational possibilities can be found. The land is very productive and the area is often called the “rice bowl” of Andhra Pradesh. Despite this abundance many people live below the poverty line. Illiteracy and child labour are common. Most agricultural workers depend on daily wages and do not have a regular source of income. Because of poverty and unemployment prostitution is widely spread among the socially weak.
In order to help especially the girls in this area a group of young Christians came together. With their own means and at great personal sacrifice they built a home where 60 girls are living today. The buildings are arranged in L-shape so that there is a large free space for the children to play in. The girls get accommodation, food, education and a Christian instruction. Especially the Christian orientation will help them to change their lives and experience a new sense.
As local donations did not suffice, Christusträger-Waisendienst was asked to bear the running costs for the maintenance of the children.
